    Train Ride and expeditions through the Central & Southern Andes of Ecuador

    This special trip takes you through the most amazing route of the Andes of Ecuador, visiting wonderful National Parks, volcanoes, enjoying train rides through the Andes with the wonderful snow-capped volcanoes and meeting the locals for a friendly and warm welcome to their towns. This trip is a mixture of culture and nature, where you can enjoy the wonders of the Andes.

    TRAIN RIDE THROUGH THE CENTRAL & SOUTHERN ANDES - BRIEF ITINERARY

    Day 1 – Thursday – Arrival in Quito and transfer to the hotel.
    Day 2 – Friday – Train ride to Boliche Reserve, visit Cotopaxi National Park and transfer to Riobamba city.
    Day 3 – Saturday – Train ride to Urbina Station, meet the last person who takes ice from the Chimborazo volcano, visit La Moya town and its local people, back to Riobamba.
    Day 4: Sunday –  Train Ride to the Devil’s Nose, visit Ingpirca Ruins and transfer to Cuenca city.
    Day 5 – Monday –  Cuenca city tour
    Day 6 – Tuesday – Transfer to Guayaquil, visiting Cajas National Park on the road.
    Day 7 – Wednesday – Transfer to the airport for your flight to your next destination.


    You can include a Galapagos cruise or hotel-land based program to finalize this wonderful adventure in Ecuador!

      Detailed Itinerary

      DAY 1 - THURSDAY - ARRIVAL DAY
      Today your guide and driver meet you at the airport and transfer to your hotel.

      DAY 2 - FRIDAY - TRAIN RIDE TO BOLICHE, COTOPAXI, RIOBAMBA
      After breakfast, your guide and driver take you to Chimbacalle Train Station in the south of Quito Once on board the train takes you to the south. The first stop is at Machachi Station, meet le local cowboys called "Chagras". The ride continues to Boliche Station, here you visit the recreational area where you have the oppotunity to walk through the moorlands and enjoy a wonderful anden landscape, meeting the local alpacas.
      The journey continues with your guide and driver who continue to Cotopaxi National Park. Here you learn about the past eruptions of the Cotopaxi volcano at the Interpretation Centre, later on you can admire the colosal snow-capped volcano Cotopaxi whilst enjoying a small walk to Limpiopungo lake where you can spot the local flora and fauna, as well the wild horses that live near this area.
      After this special journey, you are taken to a local hacienda for a wonderful lunch and a well deserved rest before continuing the ride to Riobamba city.
      Upon arrival to Riobamba, your guide and driver take you to the hacinda where you can relax, have dinner and take a good night sleep.

      DAY 3 - SATURDAY - TRAIN RIDE TO URBINA & LA MOYA
      This Morning, you have an early breakfast and your guide and driver take you to the train station. During the ride, you are able to spot the great Avenue of Volcanoes: Capac Urcu, known for its 5 peaks, the snow-capped volcano Chimborazo Volcano, which is the highest snow capped volcano of the world, and if weather allows, you could also spot the shy Carihuairazo volcano.
      Upon arrival to Urbina, you are welcomed by this special indigenist, Baltazar Ushca, who is very famous in Ecuador, due to his hard work to risk his live in the foothills of Chimborazo and take heavy pieces of ice to make ice creams and juices out of this pure ice. He tells you the story of his live and how his familiy started this special tradition.
      Before returning to Riobamba, there s a final stop at La Moya Station, another small indigenous village who welcomes you with a very tasty local lunch. Here you can learn how the locals live in such high altitude and its cultural heritage.
      Upon arrival to Riobamba, return to the hotel for a well deserved rest, dinner and overnight.

      DAY 4 - SUNDAY - TRAIN RIDE TO THE DEVIL'S NOSE, INGAPIRCA RUINS & CUENCA
      Today you have an early wake-up. After a 90-minute ride through the moorlands, you arrive to Alausi town where you take the train that takes you to this special ride called the Devil's Nose.
      This train ride is a masterpiece of engineering, because it has been built in a steep mountain with very little space, so the building was made in zig-zag. This ride takes 12 km of zig-zag climbing.
      Once back in Alausi, a box lunch is provided for you, there are some local restaurants in case you prefer to have a lunch in Alausi. Your guide and driver take you to Cuenca City, however, on the way, there is a short visit to Ingapirca complex. This is an Inca fortress that has been found in Ecuador, being the biggest one of the country. You can walk through the complex and learn what it was used for.
      Upon arrival to Cuenca, you check in at your hotel in the colonial town and enjoy of a delicious dinner and overnight.

      DAY 5 - MONDAY - COLONIAL CUENCA
      Today, your guide and driver take you to visit the beautiful colonial town of Cuenca, tis plazas, local markets and crafts such as pottery and panaman hats. This town is one of the most beautiful cities in Ecuador.
      After this visit, your guide and driver can suggest good restaurants for a delicious lunch. The afternoon is at leisure to relax and enjoy the city at your own peace.

      DAY 6 - TUESDAY - CAJAS NATIONAL PARK & GUAYAQUIL
      This morning, after breakfast your guide and driver take you to Guayaquil city in the coast. The ride to Guayaquil takes approximately 4 hours, but on the way, you have one last visit of the highlands: Cajas National Park. This beautiful place has over 3000 lakes and lagoons, there are some trails to hike. Your guide takes you for a short hike to enjoy the wonderful views and spot some andean birds on the way.
      After a well deserved lunch in a local restaurant, your are taken to Guayaquil city. Once checked at the hotel, you can have a good dinner, enjoy local dishes from the coast. Overnight.

      DAY 7 - DEPARTURE DAY
      The final day of this wonderful adventure has arrived. Your guide and driver take you to the airport for your flight to your next destination.
