QUITO ARTISAN ITINERARY
Today your guide takes you on a special visit around the colonial streets of Quito.
Your first stop is at Santa Barbara neighbourhood to walk through the streets observing special details on the houses and architecture of colonial town and learning about their history. Continue walking to arrive Casa Mideros, these famous artists that are very known for their religious work. To continue learning about this special art, a short visit to Museo de Arte Colonial (Colonial Art Museum) where your guide tells you about the famous “Escuela Quiteña” (Quito School) and its art. La Merced is another stop you do, to observe other famous Mideros paintings. You continue the walk to the wonderful plazas and arrive at Plaza San Francisco, where you visit the main square and the church. Just across this special place, you find Museo Casa del Alabado, this special museum offers pre-Columbian art and also has a little place where you can rest and relax. The walk continues through Rocafuerte street, which is a real experience to live, here you find small old stores, selling very special things and one of the stops you do is at a workshop where the artist makes the classic and famous spinning top, Spanish name “trompo”. A local market is near this workshop and you have the opportunity to see the locals selling their goods with a mixture of colours and flavours. To finish this part of the trip, you visit a local mill, where the locals take their grains and they transform it to flour. You are able to see the process here.
On the way, you pass by Arco de La Reina to arrive at the Independence Square, to admire its beauty and learn about the Presidential guards. The next stop is at the famous La Compañia Church, which is a must see in Quito and from here, the final stop is at Archiepiscopal Palace to taste the local sweets and ice cream.
Your guide takes you back to the hotel, where a deserved lunch awaits!
